As you know I was recently married on Dec 31st. Yesterday before it started snowing I went outside to start up the bike and bring it to temp. Bike started up no problems.
While out there I had the wife sit on the back to see what it would be like 2up on this monster. It's a no go with the stock suspension. The 2 of us combined nearly bottom out the suspension just sitting down. (we have a combined weight of about 360lbs) Buying another bike for 2up would be the ideal solution, but that's not possible now with current cash flow. Is it possible to change the suspension to make the monster ride 2up comfortably? And how much would it cost? I'm interested in maybe 50-100 mile rides while 2up. No long distance. -------------------- |

remote hydraulic preload will accomodate both 1 and 2 up riding. -------------------- |

I recently bought a new shock for my Paso from Works Performance, that (according to them) will support 2up nicely, as well as provide a nice ride for solo duty. I actually lucked out and got it from their ebay store for about 60% of the normal cost. (Of course, having an odd bike means they probably can't move those models as easily as some others).
Don't have a ride report on yet, but we'll see. I didn't have any option as my stock unit bit the dust, and there's no rebuild available for that old Marz unit. Still, I expect the stiffer spring rates will be a big improvement, and the remote reservoir and adjuster is just a bonus ... -------------------- |

OK thanks for the ideas. At least I know what to expect to pay now. For the ohlins around $1,000. I thought it would actually be more expensive. The ultimate solution is too buy another bike, but cash flow isn't good right now for that. Wife and I are looking to buy a house.
The works website was cool, but unless I suddenly went blind I didn't see a single price on that website. I also didn't see anything for monsters. Although, i suppose you could give them the dimensions and what not to build a shock for you. That would be too much of a risk. Custom parts usually can't be returned if they don't fit. My best bet is probably to call Steve @ ECS. He's a helpful guy and should know the best options. I hate going into situations like this blind. Always feel like someone will try to take advantage of my naivete. This post has been edited by MrGompers: Mar 8 2010, 10:15 PM -------------------- |

A cheaper solution is to take the shock off and send it to Rick at Cogent Dynamics. He'll rebuild your shock by revalving and adding a new spring for your weight. He was charging $350. It's certainly not an Ohlins shock but a lot less expensive.

And I think there's a lot to be said for getting your suspension tuned appropriately (and by someone who knows) vs. spending big money on big name stuff. There's more bang for your buck in getting your stocker upgraded to suit your weight/riding style than popping for a new high-ticket item. -------------------- |
